ACTS
ACTS was conceived as a creative retelling of the Book of Acts in which Luke the Apostle writes letters not only to his beloved student, Theophilus, but also to Theophilus’ children and godchildren, with whom he shares a different side of the story. Written as humorous letters of adventure from an eccentric and affectionate uncle, the book was meant to tell some of the weirder chapters of Christianty’s earliest days.
Adding to the unorthodoxy with which the already unorthodox project was pursued, I opted to design each of the apostles as looking like specific rock stars who we know and love today--playing off of the fact that these men, like aging rock stars, travelled the world with their own personal followings, their own weird quirks, and their own notorious personalities in tow.
A lot of research went into depicting the characters and their world in a historically and ethnically appropriate way. And while the project was eventually tabled, I thoroughly enjoyed this creative exercise.
